Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Word Unscrambler (“we”, “us”, the “site”) collects when you use it, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.
The short version
- The unscrambler runs entirely in your browser — your letters are never sent to us.
- We use Google Analytics only after you accept via the cookie banner.
- No analytics cookies are set unless you opt in. You can change your choice at any time.
- We don’t sell your data or use it to build advertising profiles.
Information we collect
Letters and preferences you enter
The word search runs locally in your browser. The letters you type, the
filters you set, and the words you look up are not transmitted to
our servers. Your game, dictionary, and “show points”
preferences are stored in your browser’s localStorage on
your own device so the site remembers them next time. You can clear them at
any time through your browser settings.
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you accept analytics in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are popular and roughly where traffic comes from. This may set cookies and share information such as your IP address (which Google truncates/anonymizes), browser type, and pages viewed with Google, acting as our processor.
We use Google’s Consent Mode. Until you click “Accept”, analytics storage is set to denied and no analytics cookies are placed. If you click “Decline”, we do not enable analytics cookies.
Cookies and local storage
| Name | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
consent | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics. | localStorage (first-party) |
game, dictionary, showPoints | Remembers your tool preferences on your device. | localStorage (first-party) |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics — distinguishes visitors. Set only if you accept. | Cookie (Google) |
Your choices and rights
You can change your cookie choice at any time using the link in the footer. You can also clear cookies and local storage in your browser at any time.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to object to certain processing. Since we only process analytics data through Google and hold no account or contact information ourselves, the most direct way to exercise these rights is to decline analytics and clear your browser data. You can also review Google’s Privacy Policy and opt out via Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above.
